I am excited and nervous as I start this next chapter in life. I look forward to meeting new people, furthering my education and playing college basketball. The reason I chose PT or OT as my major is because I want to help people in my community meet their goals and heal whether it be physically or mentally. I can also work my schedule around my future family, which I feel is my true calling to be a godly wife and mother. Through my experience of playing college basketball, minoring in Kinesiolgy and majoring in PT, I will take what I have learned and experienced and apply it through a basketball summer camp. I want to start a christian basketball camp or traveling team that is a healthy, yet competitive environment for children from rough areas or backgrounds. It will be a place they can not only play the game they love but also learn about God. Since it will be my camp, I will be able to sponsor kids who want to play but can't afford it.
Being home schooled and the oldest of eight, I am responsible, good at managing time and a hard worker. My family adopted a sibling group of 5, five years ago. As you can imagine, my family enviornment changed quite a bit as we have tried to help children from trauma acclimate to family life. Through this experience, I believe it has taught me that change can be hard, but it teaches flexibility, resilience, and the ability to learn to adapt.
I have only had training for three years and only twice a week. I know I have a lot to learn and I can hardly wait to see how I will grow and impact my team by having the opportunity to practice everyday under an experienced coach.
My family began home schooling when I was in second grade. As I grew older, I became more independent in learning. My mom emphasized the value of being self taught. While there were moments I wished I didn't have to teach myself, now that I look back I'm grateful for the skill. As of right now I am scheduled to take my ACT April 13th and SAT May 4th!
Thank you for taking the time to look at me and read this. I hope to hear from you soon!
