I am a 5’11” power forward/center from Salt Lake City, UT. My high school team won the 5A state championship this year; our first championship since 1984. We had a strong offense throughout the season, but our team defense was superior and brought victory. I lead my personal statement with that win because it points to several of my strengths as a player. First, we won as a team, strong on both sides of the court. One of my strengths is creating opportunities for teammates offensively such as screens and assists as well as defensively where I am able to see the floor and throw my opponents off their game, holding them to fewer points and allowing my team to keep momentum. My junior year stats don’t reflect my contribution in the way I wish they did but it was a great season and I plan to keep putting in the work. I've had great coaches who have not only taught me the game of basketball, but have also helped me weather the ups and downs of successes and failures which makes me a better person on and off the court.
Academically, I have a 3.5 GPA. I have taken mostly honors and AP classes and have received As and Bs. It’s important to me to do well in school and I plan to continue that in college. I’m looking at a lot of types of colleges from JCs to large universities. I’m not sure what I want to major in but business, athletic training and psychology are my main interests right now. I think my best fit would be a school where I can balance basketball and academics for a college experience that prepares me for the future.
