Coach Statement

To College Coaches:

Sam Jacobson is a 5’10” Wing (Class of 2024) - a Sophomore starter on Menomonie’s WIAA Division 2 State Tournament team in 2021-22 & Sectional finalist in 2023, Sam is unquestionably one of the top players in the Big Rivers Conference and certainly in the discussion of top Seniors-to-be in Wisconsin.

Sam is one of the strongest defensive players you will find, adept at guarding the opponent’s best player on the perimeter as well as “in-the-paint”. She uses her length, anticipation skills & quickness to her advantage while defending the entire court if asked. A very good rebounder, once she has possession, she can lead the break with a great pass or with the dribble with great effectiveness. Offensively, Sam is among the best you will see at getting the basket, in fact, for a right-handed player, she has an uncanny knack for getting the basket and finishing with her left. She has incredible upside as a scorer, as she has not been asked to be a high-volume shooter on her HS team. Her 3-point shot is very good, despite not necessarily shooting a high number in games; she is very efficient from 3 during the AAU seasons. Having viewed her ‘23 (early) season of AAU, I can tell you that she’s been asked to score more for her team to be successful. She quickly recognized this and added a pull-up 12-15’ jumper to her repertoire, as well as a continued ability to distribute off the drive. 

I have coached against Sam at younger levels and watched her from a coach’s perspective the last 3 years in HS; I have also been able to get to know her some away from the court. Sam is a student-athlete that I would go to great lengths to get on my team if I were a college coach. Her unselfishness is unique, her abilities outstanding. She is an unbelievable teammate.
