As a kid growing up and playing many sports such as tennis, soccer, softball, and basketball, nothing has taught me the life lessons that golf has. Golf has taught me independence, consistency, work ethic, and how to work well with people. There is something different about golf to me and I love the game more than anything. My passion for the game makes me want to be around golf and challenge myself for the next better performance all the time. Whenever I have a golf club in my hand, time feels like a blur. Days, where I am at the course for over 9 hours, feel like a couple of minutes. Every time I step onto the course, I always think about my future in college golf which motivates me to work harder to get to that level. Golf has taught me about my mind and has shaped my life thus far. Growing up golfing has taught me to work hard in every aspect of the game. What sets me apart from other junior golfers is my passion for the game, my work ethic, and my ability to be a teammate. Playing team sports for my entire life has taught me to be a leader. Being good at golf is one thing but being a good teammate is different. In my eyes, being a good teammate is improving each other, setting by example, and putting the team's needs before your own. Being on a team is like being in a beehive where each group is important; however, if they don't work together, they will not achieve their goals. For instance, on my school’s golf team, I am competing with my fellow teammates; however, we are all pushing each other to be better, train harder, and have better performance. On my school's team, I encouraged my teammates and me to train and practice harder and more frequently. As a result, our school team won the County Championship. Being a part of so many sports such as soccer, softball, basketball, and tennis, has taught me to work well with all kinds of people, which I believe is an important trait to have in golf and life.
Academics have always been a significant part of my life. I am blessed to have received such a good education from a very early age. In addition to conventional high school education, I have taken Math Academy, college courses, and online independent learning programs with excellent grades that are transferable to high school. With my persistence and outstanding self-directed learning skills, I’ve won various academic awards such as the “Outstanding Student Award”, and “Olympic Math Award”, and graduated 8th grade with a 4.15 GPA.
As a freshman in high school now, I have a clear goal of achievement in both golf games and academics that are paving the road to the colleges I am striving for. My positive attitude learned from golf will help me embrace all kinds of challenges.
