My name is Lani Park and I am a 16 year old golfer in Maryland. I have two younger siblings, a brother and a sister, who also play golf under my influence. I been golfing for around four years now. I used to play other sports before then, but I realized that I wanted to seriously put all of my time and effort into golf. I started around the time COVID came around, so I was not very active during my first few years. I am now a junior in high school, but as soon as I joined the varsity team freshman year, I knew that I wanted to play college golf. Since then, playing golf in college has been my dream.
Freshman year of high school, I placed second individually in the A Conference IAAM Championship. I had lost first place to a junior who I later became friends with. In my sophomore year, I achieved my goal of getting first place individually in the A Conference IAAM Championship, and I did. During the second round of the Championship, I played with the junior, who was then a senior, who beat me freshman year. She told me that she had committed to a college for golf, and that inspired me to push myself harder because I also have the desire to commit to college for golf. Both freshman and sophomore year, I received the title as MVP and captain for the varsity golf team at Mount de Sales Academy. I also received a certificate for being the athlete of the week from the IAAM. Currently, my handicap is +7, but I am continuing to work hard and improve both my swing and score. I want to be the best golfer that I can be and commit to college as soon as possible, then get even better from there.
I excel both academically and athletically. I am involved in many clubs and activities during school, and I use most of my time outside of school to practice and improve my game of golf. Throughout the 4 years I have been playing, my score has improved 2-3 strokes every season, so by the end of this year, my goal is to be around the low 70s, and I will only get better from there.
