Spring/Early Summ...Personal Statement
Hi, I am Sienna Wheeler. I am a junior golfer from Colonie, NY and I am entering my junior year at school. I have played golf since I was 5 years old, but competitively since I was 8. I am 16 years old and I attend Colonie Central High School in Albany, NY. I am a 5 year Varsity athlete for golf, and I have been the number 1 on my school’s team every year. I had a 99.4 academic average my Freshman year, and a 91.2 average my sophomore year, taking advanced classes and college courses in 4 subjects. I am hoping to continue lowering my handicap this summer as I am competing in many more tournaments. I play in a local NENY tour, HJGT tournaments, NYSGA tournaments, and USGA tournaments. Throughout the winter I work with Anders Mattson and Bob Cain at Anders Mattson Golf Academy in Saratoga, NY. My family and I belong to Pinehaven CC in Guilderland, NY. I also practice everyday that I can in my simulator space at home. Some of the accomplishments I have achieved in golf so far are: 8th Place finish in 2022 Girls Section 2 Sectionals (Qualified for states this June), Summer 2022 Girls 13-15 NENY Player of The Year, 5x NYS Scholar Athlete, and HJGT New York Kickoff at Beekman Girls 14-18 Champion (April 2023), and Summer 2023 Girls 16-18 NENY Player of The Year. I also played on our JV Girl’s basketball team at Colonie this year and we finished the season 20-0. In the Summer, I work with younger kids from ages 3-11 in NENY’s Kids Play Program which helps to teach the younger generation of children the game of golf. Not only are sports important to me, but academics, working out, spending time with my friends & family, and listening to music are other very important aspects of my life. I am always willing to put in the work to better myself and my peers when it comes to learning in the classroom and playing on the course.
