My name is Lauren Dohoney, and it is my goal to play on a competitive college golf team, while focusing on studying economics and business.
From the time I was 9 years old, watching my dad practice on the driving range, I was drawn to try and learn how to golf. Before long, I received my own set of clubs. Over time, I discovered that golf was not only a sport that I enjoyed, but one that perfectly fit my focused and driven personality. I knew that it was time to give up playing soccer and basketball, and make golf my main focus. With that, I became a golfer.
I put 100% of my effort into everything I do, but especially golf. My self-motivation and determination to continuously improve have resulted in many successes. Some of my accomplishments include being twice selected to Rhode Island Girls Golf All State First Team, as well as winning the Rhode Island Junior Amateur Girls Championship the past two years.
Off the course I am hard working as well. I have maintained a high GPA while challenging myself with AP and honors classes. Despite my busy schedule, I have served as a volunteer assistant children’s golf instructor at a local non-profit facility. This role was an opportunity for me to encourage beginners to enjoy golf, and help instill perseverance, a positive attitude, and the value of hard work- the same qualities I now possess. As a future collegiate golfer, I will contribute as an encouraging, respectful team player.
I look forward to having the opportunity to pursue my goals, and I am ready for the new challenges of being a collegiate student-athlete. With my constant desire for excellence both academically and athletically, I am confident that I would be an asset to a college and their golf team.
