Personal Statement
Beginning my Freshman year of high school, I began my career of golf not knowing a single thing about the sport. As I practiced, my skills became more refined and I grew a passion for golf. I saw myself hitting my shots with more accuracy and distance, as my swing became stronger. Freshman year was a rollercoaster ride of failure and accomplishment, never giving up on myself and staying dedicated to this newfound passion, I began to see improvement. With my focus on my education and golf, my future years in high school would require the skills of time management. Developing strategies to balance homework and practice time allowed me to maintain my grades and focus on golf.
Growing into a patient and persistent student-athlete, I overcame many obstacles. Attending a Travis Early College High School was the first obstacle I overcame, as my new school didn’t offer sports, and I would have to play for my home campus, Sam Houston High School. Next, transportation posed a challenge but was resolved with taking a school bus from my home school with a special route to & from Travis. My next challenge was having an inconsistent Golf coach, as the sport was not popular and had low funding and membership. Without a dedicated coach at the school, I had to seek out extra help and coaching from an outside trainer. I learned that success would only come from the dedication, commitment, and hard work I put into my golf career.
Winning multiple first place trophies and additional placements, I believe I not only have the drive to compete for a college team but the character, work ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact in your program.
