Personal Statement
I have been playing golf since June 2018 with the immediate goal of making the boys’ varsity golf team. My parents were nothing short of 100% supportive and since there is not an all-girls team at my school, meaning to play you have to compete with the boys. I was expected not to make the team and did not even get a full course tryout due to time constraints with the coaches. The tryout I ended up having included everyone watching on the range, and the coach giving me clubs to hit without any warm up whatsoever. I proved that day that I was able to hit well enough for their standards and made the team. I have been playing on the team for two years now and have gotten to play in a good number of matches so far. It has not been easy coming into everything with such little experience, and up until this year, I would only play golf during the season, or when I had free time from not playing any other sports. As I do tennis, horseback, and used to do basketball. I have only played golf a total of 10 months overall from the time I have gotten to work on my game, and constantly looking to keep improving and working hard on my game.
Through the time I have played golf it has very much humbled me, as not everything goes well during a round or day for that matter. As well as having to learn and not care if, people do not like you. Being the only girl on an all-boys golf team can be a bit of a challenge, since being a girl it is hard to really connect and be a part of the guys group. I am a very driven person that is always willing to work hard for something that is doable and can be achieved through goals. In college, I want to play a sport, and academically as of right now want to pursue something in the health industry. I feel I would be a great addition to any program as I am willing to work hard and listen to what is being said to help the team in any way I can.
