Personal Statement
My name is Lola Massey and I am from Bowen Island BC. Ever since I was young, I had two dreams: one, to practice in law and criminology, and two, to compete in high level sports. For the last two years, I have been at the Okanagan Hockey Academy. My first year I played on the Female Varsity team, and this year, the U18 Female Prep team. I started hockey 5 years ago after playing Ringette for 7 years including earning a spot on the BC Provincial team. I also played ultimate for four years at my junior high school. Though hockey is my newest sport, it is the one I am most passionate about and the one I feel I have the most potential in. I feel my greatest strengths are my compete level, my speed, and my net front presence. I am especially good on the penalty kill and in finding breakaway opportunities where I can use my speed. I also feel I have an excellent work ethic both on and off the ice. I have carried many good qualities from other sports into hockey including skating and teamwork from ringette, and persistence and agility from ultimate. Going into college, I hope to show coaches that I am very coachable, and dedicated to hockey and my goals both athletic and academic. I currently have a 96% average in school and I enjoy asking questions and learning new things off the ice and in the classroom. I love to make people laugh and I hope to inspire them through what I say and how I play.
