I was born and raised in Vanderhoof, a small town in Northern British Columbia, Canada. I played hockey with boys until the age of 12, but with no competitive team for girls, my family and I made the commitment to drive hundreds of kilometres every week to play on a U16 female AAA team in Prince George, BC, about an hour from Vanderhoof. I have continued to play in Prince George, now going into my third and final season with the Northern Capitals AAA female major midget team.
I am a physical, puck moving defenseman, who plays a poised, positional defensive game that allows me to read the play and react with purpose at both ends of the ice. Although I pride myself on my defensive skills, I have played wing and center with great success and often get moved up for power play situations in order to generate some scoring. I have been described by my coaches as a 200 foot player with extraordinary hockey IQ, as well as a natural leader with a lot of heart for the sport of hockey. Some NHL players that I try to model my game after are Alex Pietrangelo, Shea Weber and Roman Josi.
While I am currently training for next season, focusing on increasing my strength and quickness, I am also focused on maintaining a high GPA in order to achieve my goal to play high level collegiate hockey and study health sciences or biology. I am determined to achieve my goals and play at a school that benefits me both academically and athletically.
