Just as most female hockey players, I aspire to play at the collegiate level. I love the game and plan to continue playing for the rest of my life, as long as I can. Playing in college would allow me to contribute to a team, form lifelong bonds, and test myself physically and mentally. I am ready to take a leadership role on the team as a goalie, and my humor and friendly personality would support other players, give them confidence, and contribute to a positive team dynamic.
I plan to pursue a career in Marine Science. Like hockey, marine science involves physical and mental challenges. I spent several summers working with marine scientists and I am excited about moving ahead to learn more about the field. There are many new discoveries to be made, and I find it fascinating to be involved in these explorations.
I think that I am a strong candidate for any hockey team because, in addition to being a good hockey player who loves the sport, I am able to adapt really well to new environments. For example, I lived in Sweden for a year, and in that year I played hockey with a Swedish team, the Lund Giants. It was a wonderful experience, but it was not easy to just jump right in and play hockey in a completely new country. It required that I understand, to an extent, the Swedish language. It required that I make new friends from a different culture, and build new relationships with the Swedish coaches and staff. I also had to adjust to a different style of play and particularly learn a different style of goaltending. It was an amazing year overall, and three years later, I am still in touch with many of my Swedish teammates.
