Personal Statement

Hi! My name is Ainsley Johnson.  I am a 2026 5-1, 115 lb Center from Bismarck, ND.  I play in the North Dakota High School Hockey League for Legacy-Bismarck.  In the fall, I participate on Team ND and we travel to and play in the MN HS Elite League.  I have participated on Team ND for 1 14U season and 2 16U seasons.

I have ambitions to achieve a high level of education while playing hockey at the college level. My love for hockey has increased immensely over the last 9 years.  I'm a determined player with a deep understanding of the game.  I pride myself in winning face-offs, puck battles, passing and playing a 200ft game.  I am a good mix of speed, grit, effort and playmaking.  I have a high hockey IQ and I'm always looking for advice and corrections to enhance my game.

I was named Captain by my teammates and coaches as a Sophomore.  Being a team leader comes naturally to me.  I lead by example with my effort level while pushing and encouraging my teammates when needed.  Unfortunately, I had to sit out the 2023-204 North Dakota HS hockey season due to an ACL tear.  I did not miss any practices or games, and I supported my teammates as best I could.  Rehab is going great and I am hopeful for a return to the ice sometime in the summer of 2024.

Academically, I am involved in multiple AP classes and clubs such as Nation Honors Society.  I am uncertain about my future path as of now but am leaning towards a career in a medical field such as Dentistry.

Away from the arena, I love to strength train, spend time at the lake, and be with friends and family.  My work ethic away from the arena is important for my speed, strength and tenacity.

Ultimately, I am looking for a program and school which will provide me with the best fit academically, athletically and will help prepare me for adulthood.  Please feel free to contact any of my coaches and references with any potential questions.
