I started playing ice hockey as a goalie when I was fourteen years old. It started as something to keep me from depression and as a hobby, but as I grew in the sport, I realized that it was what I wanted to be apart of for the rest of my life. I was under the impression though that because I had started so late, that my goal was a fantasy. Despite having that doubt in my mind, I grinded my way through each obstacle that came my way.
I pushed myself through each ditch, and I challenged myself time and time again until I managed to go from a Hockey 101 program, to a REC League, and then finally where I made an official Girl’s Hockey Team after only playing for a minimum of seven months. At some points, I’d go to the rink five days in one week, and then spend the other two days pushing myself through off ice training. This made me capable of playing against those who have been playing hockey their entire life.
When I started, I’d be disappointed in the way I played, but now I’ve learned from that. I take each mistake and I toil until I have ameliorated each fault. I won’t settle for less then what I know I’m capable of.
I hold these values in all aspects of my life. I work hard to keep my GPA high, and I will very willingly dedicate my time to volunteering, and helping others. I have spent time in Honduras on a church mission trip to offer services and necessities to a Woman’s Home and the poverty-stricken.
I desire to give these skills I have to a college where I can be challenged and show up everyday staunch and ready to learn more, on and off the ice.
