Personal Statement

A story of my heart, my dedication, and my ability to adjust to learn, can be told through the journey of my first year of softball. I was sitting the bench a lot, I was very little and underestimated.  I was determined to make a change, but as a 5 year old, coaches were unwilling to tutor me for fear the 30 minute lesson would be overwhelming.  After some convincing a coach final gave me a chance, we went for an hour and half and I never sat the bench again.  I had lessons 2 times a week and practiced myself at home almost daily.  I am detail oriented and love direction.  I thrive in an environment where I can be told and shown what to do or change.  I add these lessons to my muscle memory so they carry over to games. I believe you have to strive to be the best "you".  I have been asked before," who do you want to be like or play like?" and I shock people when I say no-one! I do not try to be like anyone else, I want to keep being the best Kolby I can be not a duplicate of someone else. I’ve been a leader in softball, basketball and lacrosse. I believe a good leader leads by example, modeling hard work, dedication and sharing the enjoyment of their craft to their team. They do the extra: from supporting teammates, to leaving it all on the field but are never afraid to make the big play in the big moment. I intend on taking these skills and personality traits from the lacrosse field to the classroom and eventually to the business world.  I’m competitive against myself, a leader by example and a good teammate because I will always be willing to listen, learn and try.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
