Personal Statement
I'm a team player. My parents always instilled in my brother and I to show up, to be there. If we were going to go to practice, we might as well put in 110% effort. Standing around when you could be doing something to help the team is unacceptable. During practice, I always make sure to never stand there and not be helpful in some shape or form. I make it a personal mission to help carry as many boats, oars, and more into the boathouse as I can. When possible, I show up early for practice to help the coaches with technical issues on the boats, such as rigging, repairing, and washing the boats. I will take strides to become a better rower, whether that means asking the coaches what I did or didn't do right, or attending more camps and practices to work on my technique. I am also competitive. For example, you can often find me encouraging my boat partners to race against the boat next to us, whether that means a double versus an eight or a four versus a four. I find that healthy competition is the best way to have fun and bond with your teammates as well as become a better rower. Competition is what drives me; it's what pushes me past the pain and blisters to ultimately feel the satisfaction of winning or to do better in the future.
