Personal Statement
My name is Monika Bundschu, I am 18-years old and I stay with my two brothers, one sister and my parents in Ulm in the South of Germany. I row for the Ulm Rowing Club, which is also the National South Base of the German Rowing Association. I started rowing five years ago and have taken the sport firmly to my heart. In the meantime, rowing has become my absolute passion.
We train about eight times a week, about five training sessions are on the water, otherwise we absolve ergometer and strength training. In summer, we also go race cycling or climbing during out spare time. In winter, we also enjoy to go cross-country skating.
I am extremely interested in staying in the USA because there are fantastic opportunities for good, competitive and successful athletes. Furthermore, the university promotes and supports the compatibility of studies and sports, which is not always possible in Germany like this.
Personally, I would like to study at an excellent academically university with an outstanding rowing team, if possible as part of a lightweight team. My personal goal is to compete in the first team and to develop my own athletic performance as best as possible together with an ambitious and fair team. Academically, I would like to study natural sciences to become a doctor and sports physician prospectively.
Though, why should you choose exactly me? I am intelligent, creative, humorous, socially competent and have outstanding academic achievements and will graduate from high school in summer 2023.
Unfortunately, I'm injured and therefore can't race in the current season. But I am very motivated to get back into the competition as soon as my health allows it!
