It is my hope to pursue a career utilizing psychology with children. I love kids, but I also love to help people. My intended career, although I am not entirely certain, will focus on these two areas. I also love photography. My grand pop is an amateur photographer and has taken me shooting throughout my life.
Sports plays an important role in my life. I want to row in college. I am a three season sports girl, summer and fall I do field hockey, winter I am on the swim team and my favorite is crew in the spring. During the summer months, I am a lifeguard in Brigantine, New Jersey. This summer, I am participating in our local Rowing Club and our high school summer crew program ( new this year) to decrease my erg scores, increase my technique and begin a weight lifting program.
This past year, sports helped me more than usual. Last fall, Superstorm Sandy destroyed my home. We have been living in many places since while my house is being fixed. Every morning, I go to school, then I go to my sport. By the time I get home with my twin sister, I eat, do homework and fall asleep. This really has helped me deal with the transitions in my life this past year. Sports are a way for me to focus on something I love and am good at, instead of focusing on not living at my home.
Update: This past fall, I was able to go to New Orleans and volunteer at Project Homecoming helping to rebuild homes for Hurricane Katrina victims. It was an awesome experience because it made me realize that being homeless for 1 year was nothing compared to being homeless for 8 years.
