As I am set to enter my 4th consecutive year in rowing, I am grateful for everything this sport has given me. My school doesn't offer rowing as a sport, so I sought out the Swan Creek Rowing Club (SCRC) which is the only available rowing club in our area. I wear multiple hats - I am a varsity coxswain , while also coxing new members in LTR, and coxing masters (Men & Women’s). The moments I relish the most are mentoring the younger coxswains coming through our program & bringing out the inner leader and motivator in each young coxswain. While coxing LTR and masters are on the opposite sides of the coxing spectrum, this exposure has provided me with the ability to adapt quickly to different circumstances and tailor my approach to the situation.
These skills gained have not only led to the betterment of our team, but also contributed to my growth as an individual, as these are also life lessons that can be applied outside of the boat: Collaboration, Leadership, Communication. My aspiration is to bring these skills & cox with a high performing college team while continuing to learn & grow from this sport.
