Hi, my name is Tzintzuni Tohlakai and I am a Senior at Castro Valley High School. I started my soccer career at 7 years old and have always been inspired by the greats and my love for the game. I’m hard on myself and always hold myself to high standards. I am extremely competitive, and always strive to do my best for me, and more importantly for my team. I study the game and expert commentary, ask questions, and use personal game experience to grow my soccer IQ.
I train daily and adapt my trainings to always improve and develop a versatile skillset. My dream is to play soccer in college and professionally. I had the opportunity to play a tournament in France with my club in 2019, and we won! In May 2022, I was identified and invited to train at the Barca Academy in Barcelona, Spain. This was an amazing opportunity to play with a team of girls my age from different parts of the world. These experiences exposed me to a life that revolved around training and playing soccer. This lifestyle makes me happy and it was validation that I was on the right path in pursuing my dream of playing soccer.
Academics are important to me and I want a career that will keep me involved in soccer throughout my life. I am interested in Biology and Kinesiology and want to be a Sports Medicine Physician. This allows me to work with soccer players once I am done with my professional career. I take advance courses and do well in my schoolwork. I am able to balance my academics and soccer by being organized and disciplined. My key to academic success is pursuing something that I believe in and that helps others. As a young Indigenous woman, I feel a responsibility to impact the game, and the people watching who rarely see Native American athletes. I also want to inspire other Women of Color to study medicine. I hope you will watch my training videos and game highlights. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Tzintzuni Tohlakai
