I was on my knees with watery eyes and a blank expression; we had just lost. I felt sadness, anger, and realization. I sat there on the turf, unable to move or look anywhere else except down. Some of my teammates felt the same, some even worse. From that day forward, I viewed anything soccer related in a different perspective. I wanted to improve and become the best.
As the years went by, I became more passionate about soccer and trained harder during the off season. I woke up extra early for school and my body was extremely sore. However, that always reminded me that I was doing this for me, to improve my skills and to become that super star soccer player.
During my senior year, I became the Commissioner of Athletics. It was up to me to raise funds for all the sports teams. I also became the captain for our varsity soccer team. My coach told me, “You have what it takes to lead this team to a championship.”
The opposing team brought a giant flag with their school logo on it and cheerleaders, while we only had a little tent to squeeze everyone under for shade and place our belongings under. The girls that we played against were so much bigger and stronger we were outweighed. Throughout the game, I kept thinking to attack, but I was wrong.
I’ve thought about the outcome of this final since the very beginning. I’d never thought about losing but that’s what teaches me the most valuable lesson in life. Losing teaches me how I can become stronger and discipline. It gives me a second chance to look back at my mistakes and make self improvement.
