My name is Makayla Day. I'm from San Jose, California. Born and raised in Silicon Valley, I’ve been playing soccer since the 2nd grade going on 10 years now. Since the beginning of my soccer career, I persistently devote my time into working efficiently and effectively in order to accomplish my goal which is to play at the next level. I’d like to continue playing at the highest level, NCAA Division I, and further my education on the study of Kinesiology. And eventually excel my career playing professionally. For several years, I have reinforced my club training along with personalized skills, instruction as well as strength, speed, and agility training. My most notable trait on the field is my effort and love for the game. I play to win, but more importantly, I play for my teammates. Respect for my teammates and coaches are principles I hold dear. Knowing that I have numerous obstacles and competition motivates me to strive even harder. I am an excellent team leader that is both helpful and passionate. If you were to provide me a chance I would strive hard toward being successful both for myself and my team. The values of my educational success parallels my love and dedication for soccer. In addition to my education, I take part in Ujima, Children For Care group, and student activism on campus.
I've always been labeled as a leader and key player since I started playing club soccer. In fact, since the beginning of my soccer journey I’ve always been on the starting roster on all my teams. Including my club teams, indoor, and high school varsity team since my sophomore year because the pandemic hit us during my freshman year. Even when the pandemic hit, that didn't stop me from training I continued to put time into perfecting my craft. Mid high school season during my sophomore year was crucial on me and took a tole on my mental and physical well being after being taken out due to an intestine rupture during a game. This set me back 4 months of recovery and strength training. This injury help me face and continue through pain and hardships, to only build up my confidence and see my full potential. Now I'm thriving and excelling all players who come my way. Currently, I am a starting winger/outside midfielder for the Almaden FC 06 GA team. When starting on the pitch, my key aims are to work hard and have an influence on the game. Creating chances for your team, in my opinion, is critical to success. I go by taking risks equals rewards. While I believe my speed as an outside midfielder allows me to flourish, I am also proud of my ability to play center forward and be flexible enough to play anywhere on the attacking line.
Soccer has a special place in my heart, It helped me be the person I am today. I’ve learned a series of both technical and life lessons through the sport. Soccer taught me to have self confidence both on and off the field, as well as having a strong positive mindset. And overall I think these lessons are key to my career through trial and error. Soccer has taught me to be persistent and be an overachiever because nothing is handed to you, ever! To add, aside from soccer teaching me life lessons it granted me opportunities, experiences, connections, and friendships that are going to last a lifetime. Ultimately, I believe it is critical to understand that I play soccer because it is enjoyable. It requires time, effort, and strategy. I look forward to the opportunity to demonstrate to you my enthusiasm, abilities and efforts first hand.
