Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Jocelyn Ledesma and I attend Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley, California. I grew up watching and playing soccer with my dad and family yet never played on an actual team or club until I entered high school. I messaged my coaches in 8th grade mentioning to them that I was very interested in playing for their team when entering high school and got a great response back. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the soccer schedule for the year 2020-21 was really weird and finally in March 2021, tryouts were finally officially happening. I tried out and made varsity my freshman year, and ever since, I’ve been a starter center back and central defensive midfielder for the Mount Miguel Varsity Girls Soccer Team. We were even able to win San Diego’s 2022 CIF D5 Girls Soccer Championship and continued playing up to California’s State-Semifinals.

My goal is to continue playing the sport that I love in college and for as long as I can. As a 4.5 GPA student athlete, my goal is to attend a 4 year University and follow my career goals as a Civil Engineer or Architect, maybe even both if I have the opportunity to do so. I am a very hardworking, dedicated, responsible, respectful, strong, intelligent, caring, friendly, loyal, supportive, helpful, active, a leader, a team-player, and a very communicative person on and off the field. I aspire to become better everyday in my academics as much as in my sports. I always give my all in anything I do and never give up, I am determined. I love playing with my teammates and enjoy being on the field.

Soccer is truly my everything, it is my main sport. It makes me happy and helps me feel better when it’s not the best day. It’s my escape from the world. In fact, I always try my best and give it my all at every practice like if it was an actual game. I always try to improve myself and skills everyday to be better than I was the day before. Plus, if I am not doing track & field, cross country, or having practice; I still go out for a run or go to the gym to stay active and fit to be better for my next soccer season. I always fight for my dreams, and my dreams are to continue being a soccer player, at a higher level, and become a Civil Engineer and an Architect.
