Mackinley Menkee '24 Recruiting Profile

HI!

Thanks for taking a few minutes to learn more about me!  As you know my name is Mackinley and I've lived in North County San Diego in a town named Vista my whole life.  I am the youngest of 4.  Chelsea my older sister who played H2O polo, Jax my older brother who played Football, and Kyle an older brother who has fought his way through life with severe CP.   I started playing soccer when I was 7.  I played one spring season of recreational and was asked by the director to move up to a competitive team for the fall.  I played for the local club, Vista Storm until 2019 at which time I was offered a spot on the ECNL team at the DMCV Sharks when I attended a kick around.  I have been on this team ever since.  I can play anywhere offensively and my coaches do switch me around.  Mostly outside winger, attacking mid and forward.  My dominate foot is my right but I also have a strong left. Through my journey playing soccer, I have learned that I am highly competitive, very focused, and a leader but most importantly I am a team player!  Where I have excelled in Soccer I have had my struggles academically.  In my freshman year, I found out that I have a processing impairment that makes some academic tasks a real challenge.  I am learning how to navigate this newfound reality.  I know that I have to work harder and use my support tools when I can, but this does not have to define me.  I am interested in the world around me, I love hiking, the beach, snowboarding, photography, and interior design and of course, playing soccer!

I am excited about this process even though I'm not exactly sure what I what to do yet as a career.  I hope I can entertain and captivate you when you see me play.
