To be able to play College Soccer means I have achieved a goal set for myself at a very young age. My name is Taylor Camp and I will be a 2019 graduate.
I started playing soccer at the age of three, along with many other recreational activities. By the age of four, I knew soccer was # 1 in my heart. I continued to be involved in other activities and sports, as long as they did not interfere with my soccer playing time.
At six years old, my first travel soccer team was formed. We were a team of all girls that had to play against U8 boys teams for two years. We could not be beat! For my first eight years of travel, I was lucky to have had the very best foot skills coach in the area, as my head coach. Besides coaching foot skills, he also showed us his passion for the game. That passion was definitely passed down to me.
I had to make some un-expected travel team and coaching changes throughout my high school travel soccer years. This has brought different and new prospective views to my soccer experience. These changes has taught me different styles of coaching, alternative technical and tactical strategies, new foot skills and even new positions. I am now comfortable playing several areas of the game, when the time comes for me to have to make adjustments. The biggest thing I have learned is how to adjust. I get along with everyone. I approach every game as a new beginning. I try to see the field, the ball, my team and the opposing team at all times.
I attend Metamora Township High School. We play in the Mid-Illini conference. I have been a starter on the varsity team my entire high school career. As a freshman, our team won conference. Sophomore year we finished 2nd in conference, with in undefeated conference record. I received the second team all conference award my Sophomore year. The start of my Junior year I was selected by the Athletic Director to attend the bi-annual IHSA Team Leadership Conference, which I have enjoyed being a part of.
My intended major in college is elementary education. Besides knowing I wanted to play college soccer, I also knew by the 3rd grade I wanted to be a teacher. Neither of those aspirations have changed. Along with working hard on the soccer field to achieve my goals, I have also worked hard towards my teaching goals. I volunteer every summer at a local summer school for kids with special needs. I have always helped with kids from pre-school to fifth grade. I would like to play at a D1 level, but I am open to opportunities elsewhere.
