Personal Statement
Soccer..... What can I say? I LOVE IT and I want my playing career to extend beyond my high school years. I started playing soccer and other sports when I was four years old at the local YMCA and I continued to play for the YMCA (mostly on co-ed teams) until I was entering my last year of middle school. There was a fall and spring season and in between I played AAU basketball (back to back state champs). It wasn't until I started playing for one of the top club teams in the state that I decided to give up basketball and focus solely on soccer. I was a little late to the "club scene", but I fit right in and cracked the starting line-up after a few games. My ultimate goal is to be a student athlete on a college soccer team. Not just being on the team, but being a major contributor from the first day I walk on the pitch. Although soccer is important in my life I understand that my education and grades come first as that is something that can never be taken from me.
I have learned a lot about myself over the years through sports. I have learned the value of teamwork and leadership to accomplish goals in life. I went from a non-verbal leader to a vocal leader on the team. I lead through example and try to help the team accomplish their goals before I try and accomplish mine. I scored in the 99th percentile on the TAP report in the area of composure. Keeping my composure has been useful on the pitch especially when playing different positions. On my club and school teams I have been asked to play outside wing, midfield and outside back all in one game depending on the game situation. I was able to keep my composure and be successful. I am both excited and nervous about the recruiting process, but know it will be a fun ride and I will find the right fit for me and my athletic and academic career. I feel like I will make any team I play for better and look forward to making new friends in a new environment.
