Hi! I'm Advaitha Gante and I am currently a sophomore at GW Carver Center for Arts and Technology. Soccer is a sport I have been playing ever since I was five. My parents immigrated to the US a couple months before I was born to make sure I have a good life and easy access to better opportunities available for me. My dad is the reason I found my love for soccer and I thank him so much for it. He didn't have much knowledge of how things worked in the US but he figured out he was able to register me into sports. So at the age of 5, I was part of my first team. I not only thank my dad for joining me soccer because I enjoy playing it but also because it has taught me so much about life. My passion for soccer impacted my comprehension skills because I am constantly thinking and putting my mind to work. I do really good in school with a high GPA and soccer is a part of the reason why. My common sense and quick thinking has made be academically successful because I use the same skills while playing. Apart for soccer giving me better thinking and comprehension skills, it has also fostered a family for me. My team is like my family while playing and whatever we do during a game, is for all of us. I have been through ups and down with my teams all throughout my years of playing but that has taught me things that you have to achieve with other people are only achieved by working together. No matter how bad a game goes, you can't let that cause grudges between teammates and the best thing is to just have fun. It can be upsetting if you lose or don't have a good game but it was something that you went through with your team.
Now on the topic of skill, I believe I'm a great player and I have proved that to not only coaches but to myself too. I was put on JV my freshman year of high school and I remember being a bit bummed out by that. But now when I look back, I am really happy that I was because I had the most fun being on that team and probably more than I would have had on Varsity. Being put on JV also gave me motivation to work harder and improve on my skills so that I can make Varsity sophomore year and I did. The way I proved I am an excellent player all started when I wasn't pulled up to play a single Varsity game while being on JV while I saw all of my friends getting pulled up. The following year, I had missed 3 weeks of tryouts because I was on vacation and I remember I was extremely anxious because I wouldn't be able to show my full potential in the 4 days I had left. In the end, I was able to prove my hard work paid off because I was the only player that was pulled up to play varsity. At first I was put on JV because I did miss 3 weeks so just to give me more playing time, I played one JV game. After that, my coach believed I deserved a spot on the Varsity Roster. This was my biggest inner accomplishment and I thank my passion for soccer that kept me motivated to work harder.
