My name is Cassidy Collins and I consider myself a strong candidate to play women’s soccer at the collegiate level. Academia, leadership, athleticism and commitment have helped prepare me for college and playing college soccer. On or off the field, I view myself as a leader amongst my teammates, my friends, my family and in my community.
In school, I’ve challenged myself by taking honors level classes to help me prepare for the opportunity that college can afford me in the future. I’m proud to say that I’ve made the honor roll every quarter. Being the oldest of five children, I take pride in setting a good example and being a role model for my younger siblings and other children in the community that also want to succeed as a student athlete just like me. I’ve volunteered my time as an assistant coach for my youngest sister’s travel soccer team. These kids look up to me because they see the success that I have had in school and playing sports. I’ve also volunteered my time to our local Catholic Church (St. Thomas) supporting homeless shelters in cities in the surrounding area.
Athletics have always been a part of my life and my love for sport and dedication to training have provided me great success to date. I’ve been playing organized soccer since I was three years old and it has always been my personal goal to play soccer in college. Over the course of the past decade, I have: played on elite club soccer teams every year starting at age 7; played Wilmington town soccer teams every year starting at age 8; played for the Olympic Development Program (ODP); and I’ve committed my summers to soccer camps and training including this past summer participating in the Wilmington High School summer training program which runs 9 sessions weekly over a ten week period. In addition to soccer, I have played youth basketball and youth lacrosse. As a freshman in high school, I was placed on the JV soccer team (Varsity didn’t have a midfielder position available and was ranked fifth in the state), JV basketball and will be playing lacrosse in the spring season. Beyond high school sports, I’ve also been playing club soccer year round.
On the soccer field, I play the center midfield position. Because I have size, skills (left footed), game sense and endurance, I usually find myself as one of the strongest players on almost any field. I am able to see the field well and enjoy setting forward’s up on the opportunity to score while supporting the defensive side of the ball. As you can imagine, based on my athletic commitments, my endurance is so strong I can play for long amounts of time without needing a break. Because I am a very hard worker and focused, I can do great things on the field.
There is no doubt in my mind that academia, leadership, athleticism and commitment have helped prepare me to play collegiate soccer. You can trust that on or off the field, I will represent the team and the school as a leader amongst my teammates, classmates and in my community. Thank you for considering me, Cassidy Collins, for candidate for collegiate level soccer.
