Personal Statement

Dear Coaches

I am Brayde Smith, a dynamic high school student-athlete with equal focus on both athletics and academics.  During my soccer career, I have played any and every position that was necessary for my teams to succeed. I generally enjoy playing center midfield both attacking and defending as those positions allow me to use my quick touch passing skills and physicality to both set up scoring opportunities and also defend the opposition.  I also have experience at right and left back, forward, winger and seven seasons as either full time or part time goalkeeper. I am a natural leader and provide my team inspiration both on the field and off. I am a motivator on the bench, a good listener off the field, and a student of the game. I am a student leader in the classroom, helping students find the confidence and inspiration to achieve high academics and help others find joy and purpose in extracurricular activities. My goal, in playing soccer at the next level, is to become a well-rounded collegiate student athlete, that gets to compete with the best college soccer players in the country, while setting up my future career in either sports medicine or psychology. I am a hard worker that is willing to put "team" first and "individual" second. As a student, I have a non-negotiable work ethic that puts grades first above all other tasks. As an athlete I know that I cannot only focus on being stronger and faster, but must also find balance in my mental, emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing. I use techniques such as meditation, prayer and positive affirmations to help me overcome obstacles on the field and in the classroom. I also understand that nothing in life is given and that anything worth having must be earned and cherished.  As far as my character is considered, I pride myself in core Christian beliefs such as honesty, integrity, perseverance, faith in the system, trust and hope. I also pride myself in the ability to adapt and change when a situation calls for it. Examples of this in my life, have been my working up from low level recreational teams to top tear teams that compete for the state cup. I have been willing to embrace change on the soccer field by continually trying out for and making higher level soccer club teams every time I felt that a new challenge was warranted. My dream is to become a soccer player at a college/university that will help mold and shape my future and allow me the opportunity to challenge myself daily to be the best woman I can be.
