Personal Statement

   Hi, I'm Sierra Dowhower, I am currently a senior for North Platte High School. I was born and raised in North Platte, Nebraska. I love to read and write, I love English, I am currently in Advance Composition. I love to be active, I only wish I played different sports when I started high school as well as soccer. Track is during soccer season so I could not do both. I love to mess with a volleyball from time to time and running is one of my strengths. My normal position on the soccer field is defense, I can play anywhere in the back, I even have a little experience as goal keeper, but I have been playing defense for a long time.

    I have played AYSO when I was really young until a club coach one game I just played came to me and asked to come to his next practice and gave my mom his information. I started on that team when I was 11 years old and played for the team named Stingers for a year or two and eventually I joined a different team called Storm. I switched teams only because my sister played for this team and it made things much easier when it came to traveling. Storm was the team that truly made a difference in my skill. This team worked hard and had an amazing coach, Brian Bielicki, this team shaped who I am on the field today. This team had won many games and girls who had once played for Storm still today play with me and some others for the high school. We are a close team, we are all friends and this makes us very strong on the field. Soccer helps me get out of my head, when I am playing on the field, soccer is all I am thinking about. I am a hard worker and I do what I need to do to help my team get to the championships. Last year when I was a Junior my school hosted the GNAC conference and districts.  I am proud to say that my team and I won the district championship in Class A on our own field. The next game we played was at state and we played one of the very top teams in the state unfortunatley we lost but we all agreed that it was amazing just to go to state and we are proud with the effort we had put in. 

    I am looking for a college with a good soccer program and a great schooling program. My goal is to get a 4 year degree in teaching, I plan on teaching elementary school students, I love kids and I do plan on having my own in the future. My preference is to stay somewhat close to Nebraska where my parents are willing to come watch me play in the soccer games. I don't mind the size of the school as long as I can find my classes easily and get to where I am going.
