Personal Statement

My name is Jenna Abrams and I'm a 2021 grad and I currently have a 3.8 GPA. I am a fervent soccer player. I have represented Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro for the last 3 years, and I will continue playing soccer in my senior year.  I have also been on a club soccer team since I was 8 years old playing competitive soccer all year long.  My most recent achievement was winning 1st place in the 2019 Pennsylvania Classics Challenger Invitational Tournament.  I have also mentored handicapped children in the Angels program in Saddle Brook teaching drills and small-sided 3 v. 3 games. In the future, I hope to continue playing soccer at the college level. My goal in college soccer is to play to my full ability, improve, and help my fellow players along the way. Among many things, soccer has taught me the importance of good leadership skills and hard work. Soccer has not only taught me the ins and outs of the game but also how to lead my team on the field and in my daily life. Improving myself on every level is my first priority, this means consistently practicing my game in order to get better. This mentality goes beyond the field and into my daily philosophy. Soccer has been able to introduce me to many of my friends and people with the same interests as me. In addition, it has allowed me to learn how to interact well with others and work to develop my passion for soccer. I love playing soccer and the feeling I get knowing I'm a member of a team. Being part of the soccer team helped me make friends and feel like I was part of the school's community.  Lastly, soccer has taught me hard work and discipline.

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsInducted into the National Honor Society Inducted into Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (National Spanish Honor Society)
  • ActivitiesGirl Scouts (over 100 hours of community service) Bronze Award: This Award was a full troop project. Our troop took one year to complete this award. We had special guests at our meetings to teach us about nutrition and exercise. We watered the roof top garden at the John Theurer Cancer Center in Hackensack, New Jersey for the summer months. Then we presented healthy snacks and fun exercise routines to the after-school program members of the Lodi Boys and Girls Club. (30 hours) Silver Award: This Award was a four (4) girl project. We created 200 chemo comfort bags for the children at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital and CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia). We solicited businesses and community members to obtain monetary donations as well as donations of hard candy, crayons, coloring books, toothpaste, toothbrushes, socks and other items. We also worked together to make blankets for the bags. (45 hours) Gold Award: The Girl Scout Gold Award is the most prestigious award that Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn. Fulfilling the requirements for the Gold Award starts with having earned the Silver Award and completing one Senior or Ambassador Journey. Each Journey you complete gives you the skills you need to plan and implement your Take Action project. This Award is an individual award. I am in the process of obtaining my Gold award. I have created a Pen Pal for Seniors program in Saddle Brook. My project consists of creating a senior program called, “Pen Pals for Seniors” which is a letter (snail mail or e-mail) exchanging project. My target audience is the senior citizens of Saddle Brook; especially those that are shut-ins, have no family, or have no family in the immediate area, and love to share stories and experiences. My mission is to provide goodwill services to those in need, by giving senior citizens an opportunity to receive letters and friendship while exercising humanitarianism. The benefits of Pen Pals for Seniors can be very rewarding in many ways. Many seniors are new to the area, have no living family left, have not formed friendships, some are shut-ins, while others may be disabled and cannot physically go to the senior center. But most of us smile in happy anticipation when a personal letter shows up in our mailbox or e-mail especially on their birthdays, holidays or just to say hello. (35 hours to date, estimated completion date, 8/2020)
