For the past four years, I have been playing club soccer. The experience of being a player on my club team has taught me that when each individual places complete trust in one another, we perform at the optimal level. Trust is something that I consider to be essential when playing any team sport. You can't have a functional team without trust. This is the main attribute of a team that I am looking for at the collegiate level. My goal is to be part of a team where each player possess a high level of competency, consistency, integrity, and compassion–for each other, and the game. I also aspire to continue to develop my ability to achieve fulfillment regardless of difficulties and uncertainties.
Having the experience of playing on a optimal performing team has taught me to be decisive, conscientious, and adaptable. These qualities have influenced my resolution to become the best individual and teammate, not only on the field but off as well. What makes me a great candidate is that I have learned that leadership is more about empowering those around you more than it is about just being the leader. When everyone feels empowered and worthy, only then can a team perform at its best.
The main thing that separates me from everyone else is my will to prepare. Having the will to win means nothing if you can't prepare. When I prepare, that doesn't just mean showing up to practice. That means working hard when nobody else will and setting an example for others to follow. To me, preparation also means willing to put in work on your own time. You can never be great if you're doing what everyone else is.
