Hi, I am Amara, I'm 16 years old, and I have been playing soccer for 13 years. I am currently a junior and this past fall, I completed my 3rd year playing varsity as a starter. This year's season was a bit different for me; my freshman and sophomore year I started as a center forward and would sometimes play outside forward. However, this year our team struggled with numbers, so I was placed in the outside mid position. It was difficult at first, trying to adapt to playing more defensively was hard because I constantly wanted to attack. But after a few games I got used to it and had one of my best seasons yet with 11 goals and 11 assists and earning First Team IAC All-Star. Our team was very successful this year, even with low numbers, we managed to return to the sectional final for the second year in a row. We also won the IAC title for girls varsity soccer for the first time in twenty-six years. This year I got to prove to myself that I can adjust my game completely to help my team. I also played ODP year-round which has benefited me in so many ways. I got to meet new people and improve my game drastically. This year it was cancelled due to a lack of players but next year I am looking forward to trying out for an even larger club team. I have played for my local U19 team since I was asked to play up when I was 13. I also play basketball in the winter, and I run track and play for my club soccer team in the spring. In the summer, I still remain active as I go for runs and help with team workouts and training at the track to prepare for the next varsity season. I don't just put all this hard work into my athletics, I stay on top of my schoolwork, and I have been consistently on the high honor roll since entering high school. I would like to go to college for nursing. The idea of being able to help people every day seems like an amazing job. I am also very interested in medicine, and I always enjoy units about the human body in school. I look forward to what the future holds for me, and in the meantime, I will continue to push myself to new limits.
