My name is Tessa Pratt. I attend Villa Joseph Marie High School in Holland, PA in the class of 2025. I am currently a Junior, double varsity honor roll student athlete (soccer and co-captain of the Villa track team). I also play for Huntingdon Valley Athletic Association, and I am the only goalkeeper for my club team, 2007 HVAA Thunder. I have played soccer for the past 10 years and look forward to continuing my soccer career in college. Ever since I started playing soccer, I have loved being a goalie.
Soccer has given me so much and I am forever grateful for all it has taught me. Not only has it given me some of the greatest friendships I have, but it has taught me about leadership. As a goalkeeper I’ve also learned resilience and many lessons about myself. For example, I’ve learned what true leadership means and how I can use it on and off the field. Playing soccer has also taught me communication skills, how I can use my voice both during games and during practice with my teammates and coaches. I’m proud to be a third year member, and now an Executive Board member, of Athletes Helping Athletes (AHA) at my high school. I volunteer to help plan and execute sports related activities for special needs kids and young adults. Doing this gives me an opportunity to give back to my community and help others. Seeing the joy that the events bring them makes all the hard work so worth it. I love being a part of a group that allows me the chance to share my love of sports and hopefully make a difference in their lives.
The thing that separates me from most is my work ethic. Whether I am on or off the field, I’m always giving my all into what I am doing. That has become my mindset as I have evolved both as a player and a person, and I use that mindset every day. I am a dedicated student and work to maintain my 4.43 weighted (4.0 unweighted) GPA almost as hard as I work to be the best goalie I can be. Off the field, I would like to study Engineering or Architecture in college. I believe that finding a school that fits both my academic and athletic purposes is key as they are both fundamental components of my growth as a student athlete.
Being a successful student athlete takes dedication and sacrifice. As a goalie, I must train independently and work extra hours to perfect my technique. I spend time working on drills to better my timing and accuracy because I take my role as part of my team seriously. I work and will continue to work on and off the field to be proud of myself and to also make my teammates, parents and coaches proud. I am grateful for the leadership role soccer has offered me over the years and I thank you for taking the time to learn more about me.
