Ever since I was little, I've always loved soccer. Just like everyone else, I wasn't good when I started but, if there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I'm too stubborn to quit, so I kept at it and got better. When I got to high school, I wasn't good enough to start or even set foot on the field, but all I wanted was to be one of the girls who never came out of a game. I started staying after practice to have my teammates shoot on me when we had time. I did everything I could to improve. I even talked to my team's previous goalies and asked them for advice. By the next season, I was starting games as a goalie and staying in all game. I was so proud to be one of the girls who played, I loved every minute I had on the field.
Before my senior season started, I started going to the gym and working on my technique because while everyone knew goalkeeper was "my position," I was determined to show everyone that they couldn't be better than me. I never came out of a game this year, I was a captain, and I averaged 13 saves a game. If little me could see how much I've improved I know that she'd be proud. We didn't win many games this year but, if I could go back and change anything, I wouldn't change a thing. My team has become a part of what I would consider family. While I HATE losing, the relationships I've made with my coaches and teammates matter more than how many games we've won.
