Coaches, I have been swimming my entire life. I never wanted to get out of the bathtub or pool. I would make my mom stay with me in the pools for hours. My mom loves swimming too. My idol is Simone Manuel. When we were watching the 2016 Olympics, I saw her swim the 100 free. I asked my mom; Can I do that? She said, "Absolutely, you can do anything". I researched her and found out she went to Stanford. I decided I wanted to go there too. I attended the Stanford swim camp the summer of 2022 and 2021. I did not attend Stanford Swim camp the summer of 2023 because I got certified as a lifeguard and worked as a lifeguard at the Kino Aquatics Center in Mesa, AZ. That is the same facility that I swim under Mesa Aquatics. I was able to Lifeguard in the day and practice in the evening. It was fun. I plan on getting certified as a Swim Instructor for Summer 2024.
I started competing for my Swim School, Hubbard Swim School. I was afraid at first. I did not want to beat my friends. At one of the meets one of my friends was crying because she did not win a race. I told her it was okay. the next race she beat me. I was said but she did not say anything to me. the next race I beat her. I then realized you can be friends and still race.
After completing swim school, I joined Mesa Aquatics and have been swimming with them since 2015. I have made lifelong friends. we help each other. If someone needs to improve in something, we all do it. They push me and I push them.
My collegiate goals are to swim in college and study medicine with the goal of becoming a Child Psychiatrist. What makes me a good candidate for a college team is that although I may not be the fastest, I am a good team player. I will do what is right for the team if it means we win. During the 2022 Seton Swim season each swimmer was to only swim the 500 free once but since a lot of the other swimmers didn't have the endurance, I swam it at every dual meet. By the end of the season, I improved my time from 7 minutes to 5 minutes. Swimming the 500 free also helped with my endurance in the 200 IM. I dropped 30 seconds. What makes me different from other recruits is I love swimming and helping people.
In addition to swimming, I love helping people. I started going to the Boys and Girls Club in Fountain Hills the summer between 3rd and 4th grade. I was scared and shy the first day. One of the Leaders in Training noticed I was not joining in the games, and he came over and encouraged me to join in. He introduced me to some of the kids. Those kids are my friends still. Watching him made me want to be a Leader in Training as soon as I was old enough. That time came the summer of 2021. I applied, interviewed and was selected to be a Leader in Training. That summer a little girl came and she would not play with anyone. I asked her name, and she did not say. The Director told me that she was Autistic and did not speak. I told me my name and asked her if could play with her. I took her to all her classes. I eat lunch with her and introduced her to some of the other kids. Even though she came to the club before i started working i went early so I could be there when she arrived. i introduced myself to her mother and told her I would stay with her during the day. A few days later her mother told me that she was saying my name at home. I was so happy. The next year, summer of 2022, I was selected to be a Leader in Training again. There was another buy who was Autistic. All the other Leaders in Training were afraid of him because he would get irritated. i stayed with him the first day and when his mom came to pick him up, I introduced myself and told her I would be staying with him. She told her he seems to get upset and was there anything I could do when that happens. She told me to rub the inside of his hands. The next day, when he was upset, I did that, and he calmed down. During that summer whenever he was scared or upset, he would call my name and I would rub his palm and he would calm down. that is when I decided I wanted to help kids as a profession. As it happens my Godfather is a Child Psychiatrist. I talk to him about his patients, so I know that is what i want to do. Swimming in college and maybe while in medical school will help with the cost and calm me down when I get stressed.
I am also a good student. In 1st grade I received the Principals Award and was the first child in the school district to reach 1000 sight words. In second grade I was asked to participate in the school spelling bee and made it to the last round. In 3rd grade I received the math award at the end of the year. In 4th grade I received the Reading Achievement Certificate and the Math Award for the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I received the President's Outstanding Academic Achievement Award 5th through 8th grade. I made Honor Roll 6th through 8th grade, achieving 1st Honor all quarters in 7th Grade. In 6th grade I won the school spelling bee and represented the school at the Diocesan Spelling Bee, making it to the 4th round.
