2020 HighlightsPersonal Statement
I have had a passion for long distance swimming since I was seven years old. My club team hosted a swim-a-thon and the challenge was to swim a mile as fast as you could. When I finished I looked around and found that I was far ahead of the other kids in my age group and even some that were much older than myself. I asked my coach if I could keep swimming and was very disappointed when she told me we were only swimming one mile for the fundraiser. After that, every single swim meet I asked to swim the 500 freestyle because it was the longest event offered. It wasn't until I turned ten the event was opened to kids my age and I jumped at the opportunity to enter. The second time that I swam the 500, I achieved an A time, surprising my coach and parents! From then on I decided that I wanted to be a long distance swimmer more than any thing else. In the past few years, I have branched out and tried distance events in butterfly and IM, and have found I truly shine brightest in these events. I love competing at a high level and feel that I would be a great addition to any college team.
