Personal Statement
My name is Alexis Hernandez- Flores and I’m a distance swimmer from Clearwater, FL. I’ve been swimming since I was 5 and a half years old and have been a member of Clearwater Aquatic Team since. I had originally participated in other sports such as cheerleading but dedicated myself fully to swimming at the age of 8, when I started to realize my potential and dedication for swim. I have always been a distance swimmer even since I was younger. I remember my first time swimming the 200 butterfly I was only 8 years old, and my first time swimming the 1000 free I was 9 years old. Being a distance swimmer from such a young age has ingrained many of the innate virtues that constitute who I am as a person today. These virtues of grit, hard work, and discipline embody who I am thanks to swim.
I have been a member of the PHUHS Canes Swim and Dive Team since my freshman year, focusing on the 200 and 500 freestyle during high school season, qualifying for the State Championship in both events in my freshman and junior year and in the 500 my sophomore year. During club swimming, I swim both the 200 and 500/400, as well as the 1000/800 and the 1650/1500 free. I believe I have maintained a disciplined work ethic both in and out of the pool regardless of personal obstacles that I have had to overcome. I am in the International Baccalaureate program at PHUHS and have maintained a 4.0 GPA all four years of high school. I hope to go to a college to pursue a pre-med career path, with a minor in political science. My ultimate goal is to benefit my team and school through my dedication and talent, while improving myself as a student and as a swimmer.
