I started swimming when I was 7 and the first few meets I went to I couldn't even finish a 100 freestyle. Swimming gave me a way to express myself, a constant new goal to overcome, and a sense of accomplishment each time I left the pool. Swimming is a hard sport and no one who actually swims competitively will argue with that. Every athlete I'm sure can name a million things they can work on to get better at their sport and I am no different. I never want to leave the pool once my butterfly is finally feeling good yet I can always get better.
My freshman year was the first year I would've had the opportunity to swim for both a high school team and a club team. I had worked out a deal with my high school coach that I would start 3 weeks later than the rest of the team so I could still make it to sectionals, but I never got to swim my first high school season or compete at sectionals that year because the world shut down the next week. COVID-19 made me realize how close I am to competing in college and how much I don't want swimming to end at high school. Now, going into my junior year, I have more goals and things to work on than ever. The fact that I am so close to breaking my schools record but knowing that it is going to take months and 120% of my effort to achieve is why I'm still in love with this sport. I never want to stop being a try-hard. Once I find a college that will challenge me both in and out of the pool, not only with my academics, but with off season workouts and training out of the pool, I will know that everyday I can say that I'm proud of where I am and how far I've come.
