Personal Statement
Swimming has been an influential part of my life from the age of ten and I am eager to pursue it at the collegiate level to continue and expand the life lessons it has taught me. I am responsible, driven, a problem solver, competitive and a supportive teammate. Its reinforced the importance of a strong work ethic but it’s also instilled humility in me and that you have to work hard for what you want. I’ve always gone by this saying “hard work will always out work talent” so I’ve always tried to race against the clock, against myself, to try to better my future and achieve my goals. As a result, my high school career has been highlighted by:
- Freshman Year: Qualifying for D2 states finishing 11th in the 200 free relay, 14th in the 100 free and 17th in the 50 free as well as being awarded team MVP and earning all-conference and all-Ohio honors
- Sophomore Year: FHSAA 4A District 6 champion in 50 free, qualifying for states finishing 7th place in the 200 medley relay, anchoring the free with a time of 24.19
In college I plan to build on these strengths as a swimmer by becoming immersed in a tight-knit team atmosphere, and be fully engaged in athletic and school activities. As an example, motivating and encouraging my teammates both in practice and in a competitive setting, I understand the positive impact that swimmers with the right commitment can have on the success of the team.
In addition to my desire to swim competitively at the college level, I am looking for a school that will provide a challenging academic environment. I am currently taking a rigorous class schedule including AP classes, and have maintained my rank in the top of my class. On top of swimming every day for either my high school or club team (Central Ohio Aquatics), I also work at a local restaurant three times a week. I believe that this current schedule has taught me how to manage my time commitments effectively and prepared me for the challenges of being a college student athlete. I am open to any schools that will provide these opportunities and I look forward to communicating with and meeting with coaches to confirm that we are the right fit for each other.
