Not many people can say they have been involved in a sport as long as I have. I have pictures of my dad teaching me to swim when I was only two years old. My mom, dad, grandpa and all of my sisters were swimmers so you could say the sport runs in my family!
As far as my multitude of accomplishments in the sport, one of my proudest was when I was the first middle schooler in over a decade on my club team to qualify for the Junior National Championships. Through that experience, I learned the perseverance I needed to overcome an injury. About a year prior to the meet, I found out that I had Acromial apophysitis, impingement, and multidirectional instability in both of my shoulders. These are overuse injuries in shoulders that were definitely still growing. My swim training had to be cut back significantly and I was required to go to physical therapy weekly. Even though it may sound cliche, it was important that I learned to trust the process to get better and come back better than the level that I was previously at. I believe this trust is what has allowed me to excel so much in this sport.
I love to work just as hard outside of the pool as I do in the water. By the end of college, I wish to be a doctor; trauma and ER physicians interest me the most! As well as already being a swimming instructor and certified lifeguard, my high school offers me the unique opportunity to become a working EMT during our senior year and I will definitely apply to take the course! Music has always been another important part of my life. I have played the violin for 6 years and I even performed as a part of an orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City! Because of my unique experiences and work ethic that has been instilled in me, I know I have what it takes to be a valuable member of your team!
