Personal Statement

Hi! My name is Sydney Johnson and I recently graduated from Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa. I have been playing tennis since I was 8 years old, and I have been competing since I was 12. I have always dreamed of playing college tennis at a high level with good academics, and I still want to pursue that dream! I moved to Florida when I was a sophomore in high school so that I could train at a more competitive level and I learned a lot. I came back home and began focusing hard on competing and getting ready for my college search. I got my ranking into the top 20 of Missouri Valley and my UTR up to as high as a 6 (7 in doubles). Doubles has always been my love, but of course I love singles as well. I have always had strong academics, graduating in the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA and a 32 ACT. Because of this I decided to attend UCLA this fall just to focus on school. As much as I love California and focusing on school, shortly into the summer I realized something was missing, and that was tennis. I got back into training hard and competing so that I could try and pursue college tennis once again. College tennis has always been my dream, and it is now my goal to find a school where I can maintain high academic standards while pursuing my college tennis dreams! Please feel free to contact me on my UCLA student email: [email protected] or by phone: (563) 484-1338. I look forward to speaking with you!
