I am a sophomore at Green Hope High School in Cary, NC, and I epitomize the qualities every college coach seeks in a tennis player: coachable, hard-working, dedicated, and determined. These words have been used to describe me by many coaches and teachers I have had over the years.
I started my athletic journey in both tennis and karate at age six. Although I excelled in both sports and achieved my junior black belt in karate after just 2.5 years of dedicated training, I ultimately had to make the difficult decision to focus solely on tennis due to the time commitments required for progression. This choice was driven by my genuine love for tennis, and I have never looked back. While I may no longer practice karate, the valuable skills I acquired continue to influence my approach to tennis. The discipline, balance, coordination, and sportsmanship instilled in me during my years as a martial artist are qualities that I carry onto the tennis court with pride.
During my freshman year, I contributed to the Green Hope Women’s Tennis North Carolina State Championship victory as the #3 player and earned the title of Most Valuable Player. Starting sophomore year, I took the position of the #1 player, which contributed greatly to my growth as a player and as a leader.
Beyond my individual achievements, I am passionate about being a team player. I believe that success in tennis is not only about personal accomplishments but also about the collective strength of the team. I am dedicated to fostering a positive team environment, motivating my teammates, and contributing to a culture of hard work, sportsmanship, and mutual support.
My current training regimen is intense, with five days a week devoted to training at the Cary Tennis Park (CTP) in Cary, NC. My weekends are equally busy, either spent competing in tournaments or hitting with friends.
My commitment to academics is also strong, as I’ve maintained straight A’s and embraced the challenge of multiple honors classes while playing the flute in the Green Hope High School Symphonic Band. I am searching for a college that combines competitive tennis opportunities with high academic standards.
In conclusion, I am more than a student-athlete; I am a student-athlete who embodies the values of coachability, hard work, dedication, and determination. I am eager to continue my journey, one that I hope will lead me to become a valuable member of a collegiate tennis program. With my unwavering commitment and passion for tennis, backed by a strong academic foundation, I am confident that I can make an immediate positive impact on any college team, both on and off the court.
