Personal Statement
During my freshman year, I played second singles for my varsity team. My sophomore year I played 1st singles and I ended up taking 3rd at the State Tournament both years. However, I had work to get to play the position I deserved. As a freshman, I had to start at the bottom of the ladder and prove myself to my new coach that I belong on varsity. I even beat the number one singles player. I was told I was not ready to play number one because I am "too small and too young". Even though I was placed at number two, I did end up winning first in our region tournament. At that time I told myself I can do anything if I want to achieve it enough. After this experience I decided that I wanted to play at a college level and prove to myself that I really can do anything that I put my mind to no matter my age or size.
I recently have had an incredible experience in my region by being named female athlete of the year for Desert Hills High school as a Sophomore. This award tends to go to juniors or seniors. I am very honored to receive this award. I also happened to be featured in a local magazine called HS Insider. I was recognized and highlighted on my season records.
During the off season, I take private lessons with my pro coach and a group class where we do physical and mental training. I tend to practice 4-5 times a week. Along with my busy schedule, my academics tend to raise very high with a consistent 3.95 GPA. Balancing school and tennis has come naturally and I intend to continue my every day schedule throughout the rest of my highschool career.
I am left handed. I believe that I have an advantage only because left handed players or not as nearly as common as right handed players. I play in USTA tournaments about every month or any chance I can. Tennis has been apart of my life since I was 8 years old. I instantly fell in love with the sport as a whole and I want tennis to be apart of my life.
