Hello! My name is Christina Jones and I am currently a Junior at West Bend West High School in Wisconsin. I’ve had a tennis racket in my hand for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a family that always inspired a love for tennis within me, and as I grew up, I knew that I wanted to continue to play for the rest of my life. I have been on Varsity since my freshman year, and bounced between #1 and #2 singles during my freshman and sophomore years. At my coaches request, I played #1 doubles my Junior year and made my first appearance at state. I also like to be involved with my community, and like to volunteer as much as I can. In order to connect these two, I have volunteered to manage the boys tennis team at my school for the past two years. I have been named a captain for my Senior year, and although I was not able to be one my Junior year, I often took on the responsibilities of one such as running captains practices and planning team bonding activities. One thing that people always say about me is that I seem very friendly and approachable. I know how it feels to be a freshman on Varsity surrounded by all upperclassmen, so my goal this upcoming year is to make all of the younger girls feel as welcomed as possible. My ability to let loose allows me to be a great teammate, but I also know when it is time to be serious and focused, which is what makes me a good leader. While the occasional uncertainty of whether I’d be at the #1 singles spot or not would be considered a hardship to most, I used it to my advantage as motivation to continue to be a better player while still remaining good friends with the teammate I was competing with and recognizing that the coach was making these decisions for the benefit of the team. Outside of tennis, I focus a lot of my time on working and studying. I have had the same job for two years and have continued to grow within my positions. I train all the new bussers and hosts, even those that are older than me. At school, I have always pushed myself by taking Honors and AP classes. At the end of my Junior year, I have taken 5 Honors classes and 4 AP classes. Next year, I plan to take 4 more AP classes. I enjoy learning new things and always strive to become better at everything that I do.
