Personal Statement
I fell in love with track and field my sophomore year of high school. After my first season of track I realized my passion for running, and decided to run cross country in the fall of my junior year. I cannot imagine not being a competitive athlete and part of a team. Competing gives me the opportunity to test the hard work and training I have dedicated my time to as an athlete. I am a positive role model and a leader to my teammates in both sports. I am captain of my high school cross country team this fall 2016. My distance PR is 20:23 in the 5k and 19:08 for 3 miles.
I just completed my first heptathlon in June this summer and with some minimal training in some new events I was able to post a score of 3990. I know I have a lot of room for growth and improvement and am eager to continue my training. I am a diverse athlete and am open to trying new events in college, whether it be the heptathlon, middle distance or steeple chase (with my hurdling background). During my high school season my focus was the hurdles and both relays. Recently my passion has grown for cross country and I am eager to push myself to the next level. I know I have the ability to compete at the highest level and truly believe I will excel as a college athlete with the right coach and program.
My hard work also plays out in my education. I have achieved multiple goals in my academics as well. This past year I received the Seal of Multilingual Proficiency, recognizing proficiency in both English and Spanish. This was a huge accomplishment of one of my major educational goals.
I know with the support of a coach who matches my passion, I can continue to set new goals, improve my skills, and be an asset to my team.
