My name is Maya Garcia and I am a Senior, long-distance runner. I run for the cross country and track team at my school (1600m, 3200m, and 5k). I joined the varsity team during my freshman year at West Covina High. I qualified for CIF during my freshman year. I also qualified to compete in the Junior Olympics for the past 2 years with USATF. I am currently the team captain and earned MVP for the 2021 Cross Country season.
My love for running started back in the 7th grade. Not knowing where this would lead, I went to my first race and realized how I excelled in running. I then decided to challenge myself and joined a private running club through USATF. All these experiences have taught me to work hard and push myself and others who need motivation.
I'm looking for an institution that offers nursing and/or biology and a great running team that I can call family. My career goal is to go into Psychology and maybe pursue an emphasis in Sports Psychology. I do prefer to stay in California.
