I take pride in both my academics and my athletics. I joined Cross Country in ninth grade and fell in love with it. The progress I made and the times I earned ignited my competitiveness and determination and pushed me to run faster and train harder. It was difficult to accustom myself to the three hour practices, held every Monday-Saturday unless we had a race or it was Christmas, many of which were at 6 or 7 am; but I somehow got myself up everyday, no matter how awful I was feeling, because to miss a day was to quit on myself and on my team. When the school year began, I immediately signed myself up for the most rigorous courses available to freshmen. I am as determined to succeed in my academics as I am with my running. I challenged myself to join work-intensive clubs like Speech and Debate and Model United Nations, and have discovered that I work quite well under pressure. Additionally, I began to volunteer at the Whittier Public Library. This determination has strengthened my time-management skills and have influenced me to become a well-rounded individual, both in school and out. My determination, competitive qualities, desire for success, and love for my team have transformed me into the student and athlete I am today.
I have planned to continue running in college since my freshman year, and I continue to strive for this now in my junior year. I also aspire to be accepted into a great school where I can pursue my love of screenwriting and of forensic criminology. I thank you for taking the time to read this statement, and I hope that I would make a good candidate for your XC/Track team!
