Hello, my name is McKenzie Denise Droughns. Becoming a collegiate, student athlete has always been a long term goal of mine. Since the age of five, I have been playing various sports ranging from: soccer to martial arts, which eventually, led me to volleyball as well as track and field too. Even though, I played a lot of sports growing up, the one that I felt a deeper connection with was that of track & field. One of the reasons is that I love how empowering the sport is as far as boosting ones confidence is concerned. Over the years, I have been able to perfect my skill set from starting out on my middle school team, which I then made the transition onto my Varsity HS team & then club level team also.
As a track & field athlete, my optimum goal is to compete at the collegiate level. Moreover, I would like to major in veterinary science with an emphasis on animal behavior. Furthermore, both of my parents have instilled in me the importance of not only playing sports, but ones academics which is of even more importance too. I take my studies and/or grades as serious as I take my competitiveness out on the track. I know that in order to be a successful athlete, excelling in the classroom is the gateway in doing so. I feel that this is just one attribute that sets me apart from the rest.
Another quality that I possess is that I am altruistic by nature. I am always putting others before my own needs which correlates well when it comes to playing a team/individual sport because as the old adage goes "there's no I in team." I am constantly rooting for my teammates and lifting them up good, bad or indifferent when it comes to various races & field events alike. I understand that it takes each collective individual for a victory as well as a loss. Moreover, I consider my team my tribe, my extended family and we are all in it together.
Additionally, I know that maintaining a strong mind and body is fundamental when it comes to playing sports which is why I take extra measures in ensuring that my body is in peak performance. A few ways I am able to achieve this is by holistic care which consists of: cryotherapy, infrared therapy, ionic foot therapy, chiropractic/physical and massage therapy too. Maintenance is key towards optimal performance and I take my health and well being seriously.
In closing, I would like to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and I am hopeful that I will become an integral member of your track & field family/program.
Best Regards,
McKenzie Denise Droughns
