Personal Statement
As early as I can remember, I loved competing: no matter the sport. Growing up with a brother, I learned from a young age that I had to work hard if I wanted to be as fast or as skilled as I aspired to be. This lesson has stuck with me through the years, and to this day I use hard work as a companion to help bring me to the level of athletic and academic excellence that I strive for. While being supremely athletic has always been appealing to me, I often strive to have balanced excellence in and out of the classroom, rather than superior athleticism with mild victories in school. Continuing to strive for balance, I enjoy both the team and individual aspects of track. While I do enjoy events where I can base the results directly off of my own performance quality, I thoroughly enjoy taking part in relays. As a natural leader, it can be challenging working with peers whom I may not see eye to eye with, but having a team aspect makes the journey each season incomparably more enjoyable. During my time as a track athlete, I have enjoyed dabbling in several events ranging from sprints to mid distance to throws and all jumping events, and I love the unique and challening aspects of every event in the sport, aside from distance; I cannot believe they run so many miles in a circle! For the past six years, the track and pits have been my home, my therapy, and my passion; I cannot wait to continue this relationship at a collegiate level.
